There’s really no long back story to this one. I’ve had these pants for over 12 years. Loved it, had a baby, developed a gut, it got tight at that area and I stopped wearing it. So I decided to rework them into a two piece just because. 🙃

Materials
Full length pants
Measuring tape
Fabric marker
Scissors
Strings/Straps - 1 pair( I cut mine off an old dress)
Zip
Measurements you need
*To get accurate measurements, take these measurements standing straight. Better still, get someone to measure you.
*When taking horizontal measurements( bust, waist, hips) place the tape firmly around the fullest part of the area to be measured. Make sure the tape is not too tight and not too loose.
- Shorts length - Measure from your waist to the intended length
- Bust Measurement - Measure around the fullest part of your bust
- Waist Measurement - Measure around the fullest part of your waist
- Hip Measurement - Measure around the fullest part of your hip
17 easy steps...
Step 1
From the top of the pants, measure and mark the desired length of the shorts you want. Add 2 and half inches to the marked line and mark a second line

Step 2
Cut along the second line and detach your shorts.

Step 3
Fold the hemline outwards along the first line to form turn ups and sew down. Your shorts are ready!

Step 4
Open up one side of each of the two pieces cut off from the pants

Step 5
Fold one of the two pieces into two equal halves. Keep the second piece around.

Step 6
Measure and draw a line at point 8 inches from the top edge.

Step 7
Measure and draw another line at point 8 inches from the line drawn in step 6.

Step 8
Mark a quarter of your bust measurement on the first horizontal line drawn in step 6

Step 9
Mark a quarter of your waist measurement + 1inch on the second horizontal line drawn is step 7

Step 10
Mark a quarter of your hip measurement at the bottom edge of the piece.

Step 11
Join the 3 marked points with a ruler.

Step 12
Measure and draw a line at a point 4 inches from the top edge of the piece.

Step 13
On that line, Mark 5 inches outwards from the center and draw a line from this marked point to the marked point from step 8.

Step 14
Cut along the lines after leaving half an inch sewing allowance. This is the front piece.

Step 15
Place this front piece on the second piece(from step 5) and cut out the back piece.

Step 16
Join the two pieces together by sewing them together along the side seams. Add darts at the front and/or back where necessary. Add the strings/straps to the top as seen below.

Step 17
Attach a zip at the center back line. If your fabric is stretchy then you can skip this step.

Final Look!

I can wear them together as a co-odd set and I can pair them separately with other pieces.
